Budget Deck: Tachikaze (Ancient Dragons)

About time I made this blog.

Ancient Dragons are the "bomb". They can rush, they can crit, if they felt like it they could (But shouldn't) tank.

But the main big deal here is the rush.

Rush, is one of the best tricks in Vanguard right now. The G-era promotes rushing very much, and the strategy works very, very very well. Nowadays the game doesn't become hyper until people Stride. By rushing instead, they can hyper play earlier, resulting in a ton of damage going straight into your opponent's face while they get to do... well, nothing.

Anyway, the point here is that ADs have one of the best rushes in the entire game, and they're budget, so they're defenitely a very good budget deck.

Grade 3

Use Earthquake!!!
Wait this isn't pokemon...
This, my friends, is the one card that revived Ancient Dragons back in the Legion era. Quake has been a long time favorite of mine, and will probably continue to be. Anyway going back to the point, this T-Rex is an absolute beast. It hits your opponent as hard as it gets, which is 30k 2 crit which, nowadays... Doesn't seem too great. However, Quake's greatest justification on the "low" number is that it can do it consistently every turn (If you get Bite on your field once) and your opponent isn't going to be blocking all of that. On top of that, Quake's second skill can be used even if you aren't in Legion and help you extend your attack count while rushing.

The other options are... Preety awkward. Magmaarmor is preety bad as a backup, Legend is preety horrible, Spino is a breakride and Volcatops is overcosted. Okay, let's go through this one by one.

Y no Aquaarmor
Magmaarmor isn't worth using outside his own deck, usually. Using Magmaarmor as a final push when your opponent doesn't die is a preety decent idea. The only problem with him is the mate, Knightarmor, who is preety slow for this deck, and doesn't synergize with Stride whatsoever. If you have G2 space to fill in, I guess you could use it, but really I would stay away from it in this deck.

Legend, whether you like it or not, should be ran at 1, since Babyrex is too good to pass by. I mean, helping attack extension early, synergizes with Parititan. If you want to run more than 1? Sure, that works if you're extremely paranoid, but he's really... Meh. The best he can do is extend attack count late game while hitting for 21k 2 crit, but otherwise it's really just... Meh.

Spino's effect is preety good for tanking. Also that power boost + crit boost can majorly screw up your opponent at 3 damage once Quake descends on top of this. However, there are many flaws. First, he's a breakride, which means you'll be taking a -1 and having to wait until late game. Second, he eats your CB like a beast. Lastly, to pull off the Quake combo I was talking about you need to be dependant on getting out an LB enabler, which no one has space for more than 1. Overall he seems preety bad, but if you're going to be sitting on a specific card while waiting for Quake to be ridden, this works fantastic.

Lastly Volcatops is... Again, overcosted. CB1 and Retire 1 for a +5k to two units is really really overcosted. If it gave power to 3, or all it needed was the Retire, I would consider this, but no.

Putting the Limit Break aside let's look on ways on how to make this work instead... which is really hard. The best justification for this would be his second skill, allowing him to extend attacks in case you misrode Quake, which is a preety big bonus I guess, but that's as far as it gets. Otherwise it sits there being a  vanila 16k beaterstick. Well, looking at the other options I guess the extension of attack is a preety huge bonus... But meh

Grade 4

Cannons are love,
Cannons are life
Ancient Dragons were blessed enough to recieve an amazing Stride. No no not an absolutely broken OP Stride but a decently balanced good enough Stride with a lot of utility. This is basically a means for ADs to unconditionally retire an annoying unit that were blocking their rush, or when it comes down to it, it can act as a finisher as well, or just do both. Anyway run 4.

Then their other options are... Few. The only other Tachi Stride is Archraider which is as good as it gets. Gains power? Check. Pressure? Check. Extension of rusdown? Check check check. This is great.

Then the other most viable option is Madew who is a net +1 as long as you Legion, which in ADs is as common as it gets. Also that plus is useful for synergizing with Parititan.

Grade 2

Rawr
Here, are the two key pieces to AD rushdown. Bite, and Crowd. Do you get it yet? Crowd eats Bite, Bite comes in as stand, rinse and repeat 3 times.

Anyway, both of those must be ran at 4 no questions asked. The other 4 slots of options could be literally anything. It could be Beamankylo for the 12k attack, it coud be Launcher Mammoth for the unflipping, it could be Cannon Gear just for the lolz (Not too good of an idea. Trust me).

Grade 1

English. Now.
The Grade 1 counterpart of Bite is Iguanogorg, and the Grade 1 counterpart of Crowd is Gattlingaro. Both of these can (And probably should) be ran at 4, along with the PG, to kill off 12 of our G1 lineup, leaving 1 to go. Usually Gioconda would be the best choice except... It never came out in english... So okay, let's put our minds together and think.

If you ran an LB, a tech-in of Blaze might work in case of an extremely situational situation that'll probably never happen. Otherwise another option would be Skyptero for the bouncable ability, or Triplasma for the beatdown. Or maybe Sonic Noa as main ride target, but that's about it.

Grade 0

Chibi Dino 10/10
So the starter choices in AD is really low. Babyrex probably synergizes best with the deck, but if you want other options, Dragon Egg would work, but he'd be too reliant on Parititan to be bounced back.  Another option is Babysaurus which is amazingly good in being bad. Just... run Babyrex.

Trigger options? Basically you have 12 crits, 8 crits and 4 Stands, 8 crits and 4 draws. Among those three, 12 crits would probably be the best, promoting aggression, but dem Stands might work too (Although, crits would work better). While it's the worst choice I personally run draws, just because I can.

Note: I highly support building your own decks and doing your own testings. Please do not straight out use this deck, but use it as a base to start and spread out and make your own Version.

Effectiveness: 10/10

Price: $50-70

Competetive: Yes

Final Words: Well this turned out better than I thought. Much better, seeing the usual qualities of my blogs. Anyway to this deck, the deck is really great for having one of the best rushes in the game, and one of the hardest crit hitters in the game, early. Autopilot? Defenitely not. Thinking of what to do is harder than it seems. This can be a monster competetively, and be very fun to play with casually. This would be my first budget deck of choice.

  1. I always love reading your posts! To be honest, I knew this post was bound to come eventually. Personally, I don't think Babysaurus is THAT bad. I mean, it searches for stride fodder to thin the deck, and it makes Madew even more consistent. I think I'll probably try this deck soon. Man, I'm running out of time to do these things. Set 4 prerelease just came out. Oh, that reminds me; what do you think of a Neiros/Hestia build for Genesis? Outside of Gleipnir, Doombrace, and Hel (Vanargandr, as well, probably), everything is really really low in rarity and would probably not make that bad of a deck. As always, good luck with the rest of your posts!

    1. No no Babysaurus IS that bad. Babyrex can help your rush by extending an attack by Legend and synergise with Parititan, while Babysaurus can't. Also Babysaurus doesn't synergise with Strides whatsoever.

And welp, for Neiros/Hel build... No, not a good idea. Defenitely not. I mean, it wouldn't be THAT bad, but in the end it would try to mimmic the playstyle of Fenrir builds, which is plussing and Doombrace beatdown which is... Hard, withought Fenrir himself. Depending on the price of Fenrir, I might just make a Nyx deck instead :3

      Thanks!

    2. Yeah, I definitely agree that Rex is better. As for the Neiros deck, I should be able to build one today. I'll probably run a 4-4 split with Doombrace and Dione just to see how it goes. I'll report back when I can!

    3. That would help a lot, since as always, I'm a lazy person :P

      Looking forward to testing results!

    4. As am I! Honestly, though, Neiros doesn't exactly seem like the best ace, so I'm guessing it'll be heavily focused on strides. I guess I'll find out!

    5. I, uh, kinda got distracted and bought a Witch deck. :V Sorry. Honestly, it probably wouldn't have been a good build. I mean, it might have worked with Chamomile, but I don't have enough generic support to test it. Sorry about that. As for another idea, how about Bermuda Triangle Legion? Sure, it might be everywhere, but it doesn't even require G4's (Olyvia), and the main boss is a rare. I'll build it if I can, but I doubt I will...

    6. ... Actually I really beed to get working on that Genesis Witch budget deck- *sees main RRR's price*

      Whoops

BT Legion seems like a preety good idea, I'll get working on that.

    7. Well, the Witch deck could be budget, as Mint's the only thing that's really expensive. I heard from a friend of mine that the Fennell/Fenrir deck was pretty effective, as the only archetype-based things are Jasmine, Chicory (which you can easily replace with Jormungand), and the 10k attacker (replaced by Hati). You basically use Fennell early game to search for PG's, then you go into Fenrir for the rush. It all depends on Fenrir's price, as Vanargandr is like $7.
