Budget Deck: Dark Irregulars (Blade Wings)

Hey guys! Welcome to Summer Break!

Along with Summer(Hallelujah), Glorious Bravery of Radiant Sword is on the horizon. Some great clans got some sweet support(Some clans even got some new keywords!) and I've decided to cover them all!

First up? Dark Irregulars!

Dark Irregulars got the Darkness keyword this set. If a card enters your soul, with the exception of riding, all Darkness abilities will become active until end of turn. Darkness support, as of now, is pretty good and quite easy on the wallet. Perfect for a budget deck. But! I was never really a fan of Scharhot Vampir, which Darkness support was obviously catered to, nor interested in playing him. Conveniently, another archetype that got support in GBT-07 caught my eye.

Blade Wings have gotten just a little bit of love from Bushiroad this set. Just a little, but it's hella good. With Tibold and Sullivan, Blade Wings have one of the best, if not the best, grind games. It may seem like all Tibold and Sullivan can do is defense, but with the right rearguard setup Blade Wings can get really, really aggressive, even without Reijy.

Unfortunately Tibold is around $8-9, but as I said earlier Darkness support is very easy on the wallet. Now then, let's get this show on the road.

Grade 4
We're gonna want to use Tibold as much as possible, so top him out at 4.

For our offensive strides, try to get as many Gilles de Rais as you can comfortably get for offensive pressure. Fill the rest of the slots with Frederick, since he's the next best thing.

Kisskill Lira and Ericrius are the best first strides for Dark Irregulars. I like Ericrius better for the guaranteed soul charge, but I recommend you run both in case you can't trigger Darkness for some reason.

You can run Demagogue if you'd like. You're going to be soulcharging a lot.

You're playing a stall deck, so it's pretty easy to get 15 unflipped G-Units for Blizza. A vanguard swinging for 101,000 is absolutely disgusting.

You're running GB units, so put in Sebreeze if you can afford it.

For now, use Agrat bat Mahlat. She also refunds Sullivan's soulblast cost in case you go against multi-attack decks. If he's cheap enough, run Saint-Germain.

Grade 3
The ideal Grade 3 lineup for Blade Wings is 3-4 Sullivan, 2-3 Wings of Reincarnation, and 1-2 Reijy. Unfortunately Reijy is $25-30 and Wings of Reincarnation doesn't work nearly as well without him, so we're gonna have to stick with just Sullivan for now. Sullivan's the main ride target anyways, there shouldn't be any problem.

Grade 2
Sorry. You're now outclassed
Flying Librarian is the best generic Grade 2 soulcharger in Dark Irregulars. An obvious four-of.

For our other Grade 2's, let's first talk about Doppel Vampir. It's a Tom Clone for Darkness that hits for 21k with a 7k boost while at 15 or more soul for no cost. A better Tom Clone with no cost. Combining this with Doreen makes PG or die attacks without any effort. It's music to my ears.

Another new Grade 2 we get from GBT-07 is our Blade Wing support, Blade Wing Sycus. It's... so amazing. It's literally two of the best soulchargers in the game, Flirtatious Succubus and Dimension Creeper, all wrapped up into one package.

Other Grade 2's you can consider are: Blue Dust, Dark Soul Conductor, Free Traveler, Gwynn the Ripper, Knife Conductor, Squallmaker Vampir, Decadent Succubus, Three-in-the-Dark, and Tragic Claw.

Grade 1
Lovin' that new art
You're going to want to stride every single turn, so four stride fodders. We're also getting a Quintet Wall in GBT-07(finally) which, with Sullivan, makes 0-to-pass attacks almost 100% of the time so it's just a better Perfect Guard. If you still prefer PGGs go ahead. You can also get away with using 3 Sentinels to make room for other units, since Sullivan provides so much defensive power anyway.

Doreen's getting a reprint and gives amazing offensive power. It's just perfect for the mass soulcharging you're going to be doing with this deck. You can also run Lunatic Masquerade if you don't think Doreen is enough.

Dimension Creeper works hella well with Sullivan's second skill, as does Sycus, so it's an instant +6 to soul.

Killing Dollmaster, Yellow Bolt, and Combust Vampir for more Main Phase soulcharging, Visionary Gemini for more defense, and Serpent Charmer in case you run out or can't use Tibold.

Grade 0
Werbat Ordonnanz still the best starter in Generic DI. If you have ride issues go ahead and use Devil in Shadow.

Now for the triggers. Shirley and Monochrome are your trigger soulchargers and, hey, do so in the main phase. Main Phsae. Doreen gets power ups. Monochrome is also a wash and gives a countercharge as well, but is a Stand Trigger, so I suggest only using two or three.

The rest of the triggers? Four Heals, obviously, and the rest of the triggers go to either Draws or Crits. Yeah, you heard me right. 10 Draws. It sounds like way too much, but considering that Sullivan gives every single card in your hand +10,000 Shield and the fact that you're running only 4-6 Grade 3's, the Draws pull a lot of weight here. You're also running Tibold, so you're not worrying about decking out due to the Draws. Crits, on the other hand, can be stacked onto a Doreen-boosted Doppel Vampir. It's all up to you.

Decklist:
NOTE: This is only an example decklist and should only be used as a base. I recommended that you create your own decklist through your own testing. I found this decklist to fit me, but it is up to you to find a decklist that fits you.

Grade 0
2x Werbat Ordonnanz
16x Triggers of Choice

Grade 1
4x PG or QW of Choice
4x Succubus of Pure Love
4x Dimension Creeper
4x Doreen the Thruster

Grade 2
4x Blade Wing Sycus/Flirtatious Succubus
4x Doppel Vampir
4x Flying Librarian

Grade 3
4x Blade Wing Sullivan

Grade 4
4x Wings of Annihilation, Blade Wing Tibold
4x Rebellious Retainer of Fresh Blood, Frederick
1x Mask of Demonic Frenzy, Ericrius
1x Storm of Love, Kisskill Lira/Great Demon, Soulless Demagogue
1x Air Element, Sebreeze
1x Snow Element, Blizza
4x False Dark Wings, Agrat bat Mahlat

Effectiveness: 8/10

Price: $50-55

Competitive: Yes

Final Words: This deck is hilariously fun and ridiculous to play. While it does take some resource management to play well, Blade Wings are just amazing. They slow down rush, shut down power columns, and deal with Control quite well. I'm really liking this deck and hoping to build it myself.

Anyhow, see you on the next one!

  1. Ur deck is interesting, like seriously interesting. The thing that's holding me back is lack of motivation and should I buy the glorious bravery of the radiant sword or should I get the g technical "Genius Strategy". The reason I wanna get the g tech is because I wanna make a Hammsuke, Machining or a murakumo but at the same time I don't because I'm spending money on it xD. Do you think the decks that I listed above competitive, if not pls gimme a reason to build the blade wing deck. (If I were to build it, it just means that i just spent a flipping $35 on 4 strides (Tibold))

    1. A bit too premature to say if Hammsuke is competitive. Depends on the support in the Booster.

Machinings definitely competitive. Whether or not you should build it depends on Stag Beetle's cost once he gets reprinted.

Murakumos will be competitive once they can get around control matchups(Link Joker, Kagero, Narukami, etc)

Blade Wings play out similarly to Angel Feather: Make solid columns with Doreen to whittle down your opponents hand and grind game to oblivion with Sullivan's defensive skill.

Between Blade Wings and Machining it's all up to preference. I've played both and enjoyed each immensely, but I can't say which is more competitive. Your choice.

And again, we're gonna have to see the rest of the Technical Booster to determine how competitive Hammsuke and Murakumo are.

  2. Flying Librarian has 2 big problems.
    1. It's a Promo.
    2. It's an 8k.
You can work with max, but I'd personally run 2-3, if any since I have a slight bias against her.

    1. Huh. My locals has a huge amount of Promos available. I guess that's just me.

8k doesn't really matter to me since I'm probably just gonna boost it with Doreen or intercept with it.

    2. do you guys have a substitute for flying librarian, hes hard to find xD

      Delete
    3. I tried out tragic claw Love him behind giles de rais to beat the crap out of my friends with a constant soulcharge every time you stride well unless he gets doodlebanged off the field i love using him

      Delete
    4. @anon *she and I guess you could use Free Traveler to search out a Sycus/Dimension Creeper and stick it in soul. Otherwise you could just use Tragic Claw like Wesley said or Squallmaker I'd you can afford it. Flirtatious also works.

  3. Just curious that, does Echo of Nemesis work as a secondary G3?

    1. It'll work, but you really want to ride Sullivan every single game. I guess Sweet Predator could be used as a second Doreen if you really want a secondary Grade 3, but I wouldn't recommend straying too far from 4 Sullivan.

      4 Sullivan
      1-2 Backup

if you really want to have a secondary.

  4. Hai robot, do u have any combos, plays and tips for this deck? If do pls reply!!! loving that def already xD

    1. Since it's a stall deck and doesn't really have any combos and plays, I only have two tips.

      1. Stride Tibold and send back your drop zone as LATE AS POSSIBLE. This makes the most use out of your Tibolds. What I normally do is swap between striding Tibold and Frederick/GdR every turn.

      2. This may be obvious to most Blade Wing players, but call a Sycus or a Dimension Creeper the moment you hit Grade 2. Once you stride Sullivan you'll be able to send three copies from deck into soul. Even if Sullivan isn't in your hand you should do so anyways, since you can either draw into or G-Assist for him.

      That's all I got.

  5. i would really wanna see a narukami budget deck soon. I know ,its Narukami . But crimson build has open up a heavenly gate to budget Player. And i really hope to see a blog about crimson and kaiser warning!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Didn't Tachi write a blog about Crimson awhile back? I mean, it's not really outdated yet and the only new Crimson support we've gotten were Warning and Crownholder so there's no real point to updating it.

Yes, I want to write about Narukami sometime in the future but I'd like to finish covering all of the GBT-07 clans first.

  6. lol, trying to make budget blade wings into the next nociel, any tips?

    ReplyDelete

    1. If you want it to play like Nociel, run full draws with 3-4 Monochrome. That's pretty much it. Also run Pokkur to unlock your units if you feel like it.

      Delete
    2. Depending on how you play it, the deck already is a nociel. Just use Ordannaz (or whatever the g-starter's name is) + Kisskill + Librarian and Doreen.
Full draws is bad. Not worth it.

      Delete
    3. lol, how many draws should I run '8' so I could go with 4 crits or '6' so I could go with 6 crits? What do u think is most effective? Ik u said to do my own playtesting, I did... and every time I playtested ma crits and draws there is always a fatal flaw in it. Like 'where's my crits when I need it...

      Delete
    4. If you feel like you don't get enough crits go 7C-3D or 6C-6D. Or you could just forsake draws and go full crit. I personally run 4 Heal, 2 Stand, 4 Draw and 6 Crit.

      Delete
  7. So I ended up playtesting and tweaking the deck so that it has the same layout as a Nociel deck. Unfortunately they have a sure kill combo to get that grade 3 nociel into their hand by using a combo with Candle Celestial, Sariel and of course their Nociel Skills. I was just wondering if there is a combo or someone who can search out the grade 3 Blade wing and put it into the hand! Probably Later I'll post my Nociel Deck and my Blade Wing like Nociel deck! So u can help me fix and tweak it!

    1. To be honest I never have problems riding using for grade threes, but if you really think that you need the extra consistency run Devil in Shadow. If I ever not have a Grade Three I just G-Assist. It really doesn't hurt this deck that much

    2. so for ma nociel deck we have:

      Grade 0
      4x Crits

      4x Stand

      4x Nociel stand

      4x Heal

      1x Starter

      Grade 1
      4x 1000 ray pegasus

      4x Nociel

      4x Qw/Pg

      3x Stride Fodder

      Grade 2
      4x Nociel

      3x Celestrial sariel

      2x Pokkur

      1x Dreamlight

      4x Nurse of broken Heart

      Grade 3
      4x Nociel

Now for ma Blade wing like Nociel deck

      Grade 0
      4x crits

      6x Stand

      2x Draw

      4x Heal

      1x Starter

      Grade 1
      4x Doreen

      4x Dimensional creeper

      4x QW/PG

      3x Stride fodder

      Grade 2
      4x Blade wing sycus

      3x Librarian

      2x Pokkur

      1x Dogetts

      4x Doppel Vampir

      Grade 3
      4x Blade wing

And thats pretty much it, just wanna know if this build is solid or not and some tips or tweaking needed for this deck!

    3. Nociel deck is solid.

I don't think that you should be running so many stands in Blade Wings. There's no real purpose to doing so other than standing a 40-60k Doreen, which shouldn't really be there in the first place. I also think that the Cray Elementals are a bit unnecessary, but that's a personal thing and if you really don't like Link Jokers go ahead.

      Delete
    4. lol Forgot about the g zone

      Grade 4
4x Wings of Annihilation, Blade Wing Tibold
4x Rebellious Retainer of Fresh Blood, Frederick
1x Mask of Demonic Frenzy, Ericrius
1x Storm of Love, Kisskill Lira/Great Demon, Soulless Demagogue
      1x Miracle Element, Atmos
      1x Snow Element, Blizza
4x False Dark Wings, Agrat bat Mahlat

    5. oops acci not press thee reply, so if the 3 cray elemental are unnecessary what card do u think should replace them?

      Delete
    6. I'd say run more Grade 1's. Tragic Claw is also a really nice card to use

    7. [AUTO](VC/RC): When your other unit is placed in the same column as this unit, you may Soul Charge (1).
[AUTO](RC) Generation Break 1 Darkness (This ability is active if cards have been put into your soul during this turn).: When your other unit is placed in the same column as this unit, if the number of cards in your soul is ten or more, this unit gets "boost" until end of turn, and if the number of cards in your soul is fifteen or more, this unit gets [Power]+2000 until end of turn.
Flavor: I'll put my all into it. Now present your cheek!

    8. his skill is pretty good but have u ever had ur Doreen or doppel get locked and when u look at the guy that’s playing link joker and he is smirking at u like a pig. It literally wanna make u flip out?

(Btw I’m someone who loses motivation when things start to look bad, like really bad. Last time I had my whole field locked, some were omega locked.

      Delete
    9. Whenever I play against link jokers the only thing I call is librarian for the soulcharge, so I've never really hated the matchup. If it's CBD or Messiahs they end up decking themselves out, so it makes the matchup even easier.

  8. are these trigg alright? 4 stand 4 draws 4 crits or 4 stand 2 draw and 6 crits, if u do not agree could u give me a layout of triggs that u think is most effective.

    1. 4 Shirlies, 2 Monochrome, and 6 Crits is probably best. 2 Monochrome, 6 Draws, and 4 Crits.

  9. If Tibold wasn't almost $20 per, I'd love to build this deck as Dark Irregulars are my favorite clan. I really want to try the build with 12 or even 16 draw triggers since Tibold puts everything back from the drop zone anyway.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, it's really unfortunate that Tibold spiked up and it's the only thing that's stopping me from building it, myself. I knew I should've picked them up when they were &8. :(

I recommend full draws more for casual than competitive. You only get 25 minutes in most tournaments a round and 12 Draw Tibold's gonna stall for much longer than that.

      Delete
  10. I really like this build, but I personally thing Sully's skill can work better when you have things like Dark Soul Conductor helping out with maintaining the Soul. Here's the build I'm currently tweaking around. Budget isn't exactly a problem as long as it's under 200 bucks, which I'm pretty sure it is. And I already have several of the cards, so it's not as much as it would be. I have two Spade Jack, so I think I might even switch out an Ordonnaz and a Gemini for them so I can get free Darkness, and it's also a unit to kill for Avarice.

    Grade 0:
    - Werfleder Ordonnaz (x2)
    - Mad Hatter of Nightmareland [Draw] (x4)

    1. You should be able to purchase Gilles de Rais now that he is going to be reprinted. Take out the 1 Demagogue, 2 Ericrius, and 2 Lira for Gilles. Use the last slot for a Saint Germain or Sebreeze.

The lack of Flying Librarian disturbs me a bit, but that's a personal issue.

      Delete
    2. Yeah, I'm really hyped for the reprint. I might not use Sebreeze since the deck isn't very GB-limited and I barely have enough CB as it is. Saint-Germain would be for a really high attack, I suppose. And I switched Emblem Master for Librarian since I can't find a lot of Emblem Masters online. So the new build is like this:

      Grade 0:
      - Werfleder Ordonnaz (x2)
      - Mad Hatter of Nightmareland [Draw] (x4)
      - Endless Boozer [Draw] (x4)
      - Hysteric Shirley [Draw] (x4)
      - Alice of Nightmareland [Heal] (x4)

      Grade 1:
      - Dimension Creeper (x4)
      - Succubus of Avarice [PG] (x2)
      - Blade Wing Tyrwhitt [QW] (x2)
      - Visionary Gemini (x4)
      - Succubus of Pure Love (x4)

      Grade 2:
      - Blade Wing Sykes (x4)
      - Flying Librarian (x4)
      - Dark Soul Conductor (x4)

      Grade 3:
      - Blade Wing Sullivan (x4)

      Grade 4:
      - Wings of Annihilation, Blade Wing Tibold (x4)
      - Abominable One, Gilles de Rais (x4)
      - Rebellious Retainer of Fresh Blood, Frederick (x1)
      - Mask of Demonic Frenzy, Ericrius (x1)
      - Love Tempest, Kisskill Lira (x1)
      - Nighttime Gentleman, Saint-Germain [GG] (x1)
      - False Dark Wings, Agrat Bat Mahlat [GG] (x4)
