Budget Deck: Royal Paladins (Ezzel)

The damn original boss of
RP is now revived!
Are you an old school player who decided to pick up the game again? Do you have copies of the original Alfred and you wanna revive your old RP deck? Well then. This is the deck for you! The first ever Legion Revival we (ever) got, King of Knights' Vanguard,Ezzell is a Legion Revival for, guess what! Alfred! I honestly thought that this wouldn't be a thing... I never imagined that Alfred would ever come back... (The original at least) and look at what we have here! Wow. Bushitroll does some decent stuff once in a while.

Originally, my Ezzel deck consisted of Seeker hybrids. Until... G Comic Booster 1: Vanguard & Deletor decided to come out, and gave us a bunch of new stuff that I can work with. Honestly I was a bit annoyed because... well, I posted this like a week before that got officially confirmed.

Then I was saved by how crappy this set was.

There's next to nothing useful in this set. All they did was release a bunch of really horrible cards for people who wanted to use the Alfred deck again. The only cards that were actually worth a little were: Holy Squire Dragon (Possibly), Galehalt, and Eluron (ESPECIALLY Eluron). Then again, this set was a blessing in disguise. It reprinted Madew, Iseult, Ezzel and Alfred original for us as Rs, making their price drop very significantly.

Grade 3

King of Vanguard... So this is
Bushi's reincarnation? Okay.
*Proceeds to burning it*
First of all, Allow me to sing the praises of Ezzel. Ezzel: Has a great skill with a great mate. So, thanks to Alfred, you'll be hitting consistently for at least 24k each turn, and a possible 31k. Consistent 31k = a monster. AND he has an amazing second skill. He can Persona Blast (Either himself or Alfred) and SB2, to tutor any freaking Grade 1, 2, and a 0 from your deck. One does not call a +2 for no CB bad. Ever.

Alfred is Ezzel's Legion mate, but with that low power, 1-2 should be enough to run. And since G-CB01 reprinted him as a R, he should be really cheap. Now to discuss the other G3 slots.

One option is Splitting Seeker, Brutus. First of all, he looks cool. Second of all, his skill is amazing. A CB1 to give everything in the front row +3k. This is... Great. It hits for numbers himself, and plus scales units, and makes a 3/4/3 field. Do you realize how good this is?

Then there's Knight of King's Lieutenant, Galehalt, who is a really good RG option to have. That Counter Charge could come in extremely handy. The Alfred tutoring skill is probably never going to get used though.

The last solid option is Seeker, Purgation Breath Dragon. I personally found this... CB heavy, even if it's a CB1 at 2 RGs. You can't use it with Gildas (Unless you have 3 damage) and just... I don't like him a bunch. He does have a very useful mate though.

Oh and also, Alfred 5.0. Or if you want, Altmile.

Grade 2

The grade 2 lineup is mostly consisted of Engines and mates (Like Locrinus if you run Brutus), but despite being simple to construct, these guys are the main star of the deck.

A useful draw engine that is available for us is Sibergal Seeker. It has a skill that activates if your Vanguard is in Legion. If his attack hits, you get to draw a card. This looks impressively good, due to the reason why (As I said in this post) Bugreed is good. Except he isn't. That 8k power makes this dog very underpowered, while the draw engine is still much appreciated. You could fix the problem by using Cherin, but that's a one-turn shot.

Speaking of Cherin, Brave Stride Seeker, Cherin is a great unit. You can tutor it with Ezzel (Uses no CB) and use his skill to give +4k to anything. This alone isn't so impresive, but combined with Isbuzzard... It can get ridiculous. What?  No. Not Cheren.

One Shot, One Kill.
Gildas is a great card. It just doesn't get the respect it deserves because Seekers are usually CB heavy. But! Thanks to Ezzel, he can truely shine. He can pay a CB1 to call any Seeker from the deck when your Vanguard Legions. This is a wash, but it's a quality wash. Any card tutored into the field? Awesome. With one of him on the field, and a freshly Persona blasted Ezzel in Legion, you just went from one RG to 5. Instant 31k attack beating starts: Now!

Knight of Twin Sword can be used as a combo card, but aside from that, Gildas does the field plussing.

Cerdic in this deck? Do I really have to? No. If you must, use Morvi instead. Or Brede.

Agreement Seeker, Menprius is something you should be avioding from use. He has a 40% fail rate that just isn't worth it. It doesn't even pressure your opponent that much because he knows about the 40% fail rate.

Grade 1

I came back quickly! If
you consider 5 seasons quickly
ALL HAIL ISBUZZARD. The best Legion support that Bushi ever released. I don't care if it's once only, a freaking 11k booster is great (And it's easy to get him out into the field). Usually they only show their value when boosting a 10k+ attacker, but eh, what is this? It's Seekers! We have Cheren (No, not the pokemon trainer), and Margal when necessary (Not valid, but still). This is plenty great as it is.

Iseult got a reprint as an R, making it possibly the cheapest PG RP has to offer as of now. I'd run her.

And after Isbuzzard, we have other Power beating (Not boosting, mind you) units in Seekers. One of them is Gangalen. If you ever end up having a 7k booster, and no Grade 2, this can replace it. Another is Lunate, who can hit 1k more for like... a really easy condition. Just not early game rush.

Random Person: Tachi, how about Cynric?
Me: *Facepalm*

So, I only have one more option to cover. And that's Bravogal. This guy applies early game pressure, and can tutor out any unit if it hits. ANY. FREAKING. UNIT. How great is that? Hit early game and tutor out Gildas, and as I said, Instant 31k beatdown starts.

... Now that's on paper only. In testing in pure Seekers, if this remained on the field, I found it getting annoying. It was just horrible. 7k Vanila is horrible (Not as horrible as it gets though), and I can call better units out. Using it in large numbers might not wok well, but if you run any less than 3, it gets risky pulling him. It doesn't work for me, but it might for you.

Grade 0

A while back, the one and only good starter that this deck had to use was Shining Knight, Millius. Now, with G-CB01 out, we have a very useful option and his name is Eluron. Eulron is a great unit, allowing you to be able to tutor out any freaking card when you're in Legion. I repeat: ANY FREKING CARD. This is amazing. You could get out anything you need depending on the situation. Really really great. Millus searches out Grade 2s? This guy searches out anything.

Of course, depending on whether you preferred Striding or Legioning, Millus could be used instead, but I'd use Eluron instead.

Grade 4

I hereby name thee "Sammy".

I'm too lazy to write a whole essay for now so I'll make this simple and quick.

Altmile G4: Expensive $$$ but good skill. Run if possible

Sammy: Good free damage, a great tech-in

Holy Squire Dragon: Meh but is still a good cheap finisher

Jirron: Good +5ker

Gablade: Good pressure

Note: I highly support building your own decks and doing your own testings. Please do not straight out use this deck, but use it as a base to start and spread out and make your own Version.

Grade 3:

Grade 4:

 Effectiveness: 8/10

Price: $40-50

Competetive: Maybe

Final Words: Ezzel is the first Legion build that I ever tried out. I liked how the Seekers with this went a lot. Ezzel and Brutus are probably one of the few Legions that actually works with Seeker support right now. I can safely say that you'll love the build after a few days.

So this deck is defenitely not Autopilot... But is defenitely fun to use. Ezzel + Seeker engine is a fantastic combo that no one can hate.

  1. I'm just curious, but what cards from the Comic Booster do you think you'll use? I'd personally use Geurard, Eluron, and Yunos.

  3. Since Alfred getting reprinted on the Vanguard and Deletor set as R rarity, the value for the Alfred/Ezzel budget decks becomes lower, not to mention Iseult gets printed as a rare too for people that wants a really cheap PG.

    2. Yeah, just wanted to give a heads up to players wanting to build this deck. If they can wait till Nov 20, it'll lower their cost even more.
