Budget Deck: Genesis (Fenrir)

Ar-Wooooo!
So my man Fenrir Fanboi highly requested a Fenrir post, and I decided to spoil him a bit. I needed to post one anyways, due to it's rising popularity.

Fenrir, Genesis's Strider, is a great card. Free soul charge and quality plus for a counterblast. And it only gets better now that Genesis decks have access to the Tahro/Wiseman combo, which can get really deadly, especially with Revelation to dig for critical triggers. Unfortunately, such a great card has the not-so-great price of $18-20.

Oh well. We can use Tachi's Stride Fodder trick and get away with, like, 1 Fenrir. Won't be too inconsistent. Hopefully... And the rest of the main deck's pretty cheap, so you can afford to spend more on your G-Zone.

Also, if you didn't notice, most of the revelation units don't have GB and helps the deck function without GB now, so that's cool.

Grade 3
As many Fenrirs as comfortably possible. Then 3-4 Angelic Wiseman for the loop.

Also, if you didn't know how the loop works:
  1. Get a large amount of soul, including 4 Tahro
  2. Swing with Vanguard. Give all triggers to a Stand Rearguard Angelic Wiseman.
  3. Attack with Angelic Wiseman, Use skill to soulblast 3, including 1 Tahro
  4. Using Tahro's skill, stand Wiseman. Ruling Note: Standing Wiseman does not cancel its attack
  5. Use any skills to add more Tahro to soul
  6. Repeat from Step 3
Get a good amount of Crit pressure on the Wiseman and it definitely won't bode well for your opponent.

Unless they play Denial... Or Negrolily...

Now. Grade Threes to fill up the space opened up by the lack of Fenrirs.

Svava seems like the best choice, with Revelation, a solid +5000 to itself with SB3, and a draw if it's on the VC, not to mention great art. Azusa is another card with Revelation, with a skill that gets her +1000 per soulcharge, and an additional +2000 if it was through Revelation.

Other good cards include, but are not limited to: Hestia, Fortuna, Yatagarasu, Justia against LJ, Minerva if you have the money, and Metis if you want to fix your ride without minusing.

Grade 2
Boulder Fetter, Gjoll is a great card. Card draw is always good. And it also helps to fill the void left by Gleipnir, if you can't afford it.

By the way, Gleipnir should be run at max in every Genesis deck outside of Regalia and Witches. Everything. Given that you can afford it, of course.

Kotonoha is a slightly weaker Azusa clone, but +2k isn't that different from +3k. And it has 9k base rather than 8k.

Chamomile is good. It's always good. Not as good as it used to be, but it's always good. And Jormungand works, I guess.

Grade 1
4 Stride Fodders is a must, no questions asked. And the PGG's, like, $5 so it's not that bad... Oh what the hell just use normal PGs. You don't need Counterblast anyways. Elsie's an option too, I guess. I'd just use Elsie, since it has VC Revelation.

Another Ruling Note: You can ride Elsie and use revelation BEFORE using Forerunner, so you don't have to rest your starter. This will also apply to all future G1 VC Revelation units. Just keep that in mind.

Gelgja is just awesome. Stand a rest unit to reduce the cost of Revelation and counter Megacolony(lol), as well as power ups. There's also even more loops that use this card, but that requires, like, 2 cards left in deck. Also, just a note, it ain't GB. This card's just great.

Harry is free countercharge. Why not.

And Hati if you have room, I guess.

Grade 0
Two options: Van and Leyding. Van is my favorite, giving +2000 to anything when it rests from Revelation, and a draw with GB1. Leyding is also good, allowing you to get units from soul to fill up your field, but I'd go with Van still because Fenrir can do Leyding's job.

Just a little thing to mention, you can call out Van with Fenrir, then send him into soul for a draw. Rinse and repeat. It's sorta dumb and ludicrous and I'm not telling you to do this, but it might come in handy against Link Joker.

6 Crits, 4 Tahro, 2 Dreaming Dragon, 4 Heals. I don't normally set triggers in stone, but for this deck I highly recommend you use this specific lineup.

Grade 4
A Tyr down my cheek ;-;
Hopefully Hellsky Fenrir won't be too expensive...
>$40-50 pre sale
Well shit. At least you only need one. And it'll probably go down regardless after, like, a week or two.

Best budget stride for Genesis is Tyr and will fit our needs perfectly. Mass soul charging for Tahros, trigger stacking, it's got it all. Then there's Dione who has her uses, but really is just space filler.

Vanargandr and Doom Brace if you can get them, but I'd prioritize getting Hellsky Fenrir and G3 Fenrir over them.

Blizza can be used to fill space and can be used as a pseudo-finisher.

Iris is just a great G-Guard, but that Hanasatsuki isn't bad either. Also maybe a Scryew or two.

Throw in a Sebreeze if you got one or can buy one.

Decklist:
NOTE: This is only an example decklist and should only be used as a base. I recommended that you create your own decklist through your own testing. I found this decklist to fit me, but it is up to you to find a decklist that fits you.

Grade 0:
1x Fetter Creator, Van/Fetter of Leather, Leyding
6x Critical Triggers
4x Goddess of Deep Sleep, Tahro
2x Dreaming Dragon
4x Heal Triggers

Grade 1:
4x Perfect Guard of Choice/Secret Elsie
4x Mythic Beast, Skoll
4x Fetter of Shackles, Gelgja
2x Claimer, Harry

Grade 2:
4x Boulder Fetter, Gjoll
4x Battle Maiden, Kotonoha
3x Witch of Ravens, Chamomile

Grade 3:
1-4x Mythic Beast, Fenrir
4x Angelic Wiseman
0-3x Ice Goddess, Svava

Grade 4:
0-1x Hellsky Mythic Beast, Fenrir
4x Beast-Slayer Military Deity, Tyr
4x Goddess of the Firmament, Dione
3-4x Snow Element, Blizza
4x Goddess of the Seven Colors, Iris

Effectiveness: 7.5/10

Price: $40-145

Competitive: Maybe, but if you can get a full set of Fenrirs definitely.

Final Words: Okay, the deck goes waay above $100 if you decide to get Hellsky and 4 Fenrirs, and definitely will be way more if you get Vanargandrs and Doom Braces. But it's definitely a great deck to play both competitive and casual. Your friends might be a little salty after Wiseman loop, but whatever. Fun deck that performs consistently and strong. Not autopilot whatsoever, but it's really fun once you get the hang of it.

Anyhow, see you in the next one!

  1. The 4 Fenrir version of this deck will be posted in the new thread Overpriced-Guard, where all the decks that have a pricetag way higher than the justified tier of the deck featuring, budget angel feather with good strides, link joker, and anything with a GR that is only valuable because of artificial rarity.

    1. The 4 Fenrir version of the deck is actually not above the $100 mark(Sits just at around $95). It only goes above $100 if you decide to play Hellsky
