Budget Deck: Royal Paladin (Garmore)

So when I first looked at Garmore, I was kind of underwhelmed. The first skill needs the deck to run a ton of High Beasts for the skill to go off consistently, and the second skill is a slightly better Ebraucus. In addition, the GB2 restriction on the first skill seemed unnecessary and slow. G3 Garmore isn't great either and has a weak base, so that didn't help.

Most adorable doggo ever

After testing, I proved myself to be wrong about it being bad. Giving an entire formation power and getting a crit for essentially no cost is amazing. The dual-blast call can help build up a formation easy. Sure, G3 Garmore has a weak base and I don’t use his skills, but the skills don’t matter when I stride every turn. In addition, the weak base unlocks access to Madew and Valancher. Royals have a great generic stride lineup, so even is Garmore doesn't work out you aren't completely screwed.
Unfortunately, there is no way (that I’m aware of) to search out Garmore. Welp, I guess Altmile works as a backup.

The list I use only has 35 High Beasts. That way the Crit-gain goes off almost every time, and you can power up most (if not all) of your formation. When deciding between Jumpgal and Millius, I actually went Millius. The main reason I run Millius over Jumpgal is for soul. Jumpgal is nice for offensive and defense, but Millius’ formation-building and soul-increasing trumps Jumpgal. The deck needs soul to be able to use both Packgal and G4 Garmore’s skill, and you can't do that with just 2 cards in the soul (the G1 and G2 units). CC is important as well as building up a board, so you can't really not use Millius, unless you want to pay $10 for Soniccgal and find a way to easily enable Brave and have it work with the deck.

If only Royal Paladin had 2 different Garmores like Gold Paladin does. Ah well, it can’t be too inconsistent. And if you really don’t want to use Saltmile, you can always sit on Ashhgal to stop your opponent from striding into anything other than Sebreeze.

Yes, I know Ashhgal is a 10k Vanilla. Please don’t hurt me for using vanillas. The reason I use 10k vanilla is not just for the High Beast subtext, but for the defensive number. With most G2s being 9k, the defensive number helps. With a meta constantly becoming more and more aggressive, calling G2s from the hand early game is much more common. The extra 1k forces the opponent to waste more resources calling boosters from the hand to make those attacks hit. If you want a more detailed explanation, look at DifferentFight’s video here.

While I’m on the defense topic, Escort and Scouting are both 4-ofs. Being High Beasts is great, and defense is constantly needed more and more in order to not die quickly. I have never been a fan of the Brave mechanic in general, but hey, those birdos fit with it well. Intercepting for extra shield in a deck that can easily replenish the empty spaces is honestly great.

Another questionable choice in my G2 lineup is Akane. CB2 and a weak base seems like a hefty cost for a call, but it is worth it. Most of your deck is High Beasts, so basically your entire deck is a toolbox for this. The CB cost can be balanced by Packgal, and Akane can help finish games during the Battle Phase after calling it with Twin Sword. In addition, if you have a Packgal behind it and use Garmore’s skill to give them both 4k, the Akane row becomes 21k (8k+4k+5k+4k), which is a magic number netherless. If you call a Rendgal it becomes a 26k row. I only run 2 because you can toolbox it with Millius and Twin Sword, so it’s not necessary to have any more and hinder Garmore’s skill.

When making the G1 lineup I had difficulties because of the bs prices. Stride Fodder is $8 and Soniccgal is $10. I can’t handle Promos and Stride Fodders doing this to me. Rip my poor budget eyes. So yeah, that’s why I don’t use them. If you can afford them, cut a Saltmile and some of the G2 lineup to make room for them.

The G Zone also depends on your budget, but you really only need G4 Garmore, G Guards, and a 1st stride (Madew, Valancher once it’s released, or Gablade are my recommended ones). The rest can be whatever works best with Altmile that you can reasonably afford in case you end up riding him. Royals still don’t have a very good G Guard lineup, so have fun dealing with that.

For triggers, I was actually suggested to use 16 Crit at one point. Going balls-to-the-walls offensive has never really appealed to me, so I only use 12. Having G Guards makes it hard to justify not using Heals. Between the 10k G2 defensive number, Heals, 4 PGs, and the Brave birdos, you definitely should live long enough to get off Garmore’s GB2. If you really wanna be like Japan’s Sanc Guard players and go without Heals and PGs, go ahead, it’ll be adventurous at least.

Decklist:
NOTE: This is only an example decklist and should only be used as a base. I recommended that you create your own decklist through your own testing. I found this decklist to fit me, but it is up to you to find a decklist that fits you.

16x High Beast Triggers of Choice

Grade 1:

4x Walgal

Effectiveness: 7.5/10

Price: $60-65

Competitive: Probably...

Final Words: Garmore is neat. Losing out on the G3s skill isn't good, but the deck still functions fine. The deck can be expanded upon with a bigger budget, but t
he deck as it is is definitely strong. Calling a formation early-game is always good, and defensive capabilities help survive against decks like Sanc Guard that’ll hit you hard. Power up an entire formation and putting Crit pressure on a VG is awesome, especially when it’s free. Altmile isn’t a bad backup if you fail getting Garmore, either.

  1. they really need to slow the game down, maybe the nub support might lock down fields at grade 2 if your opponent calls more units but i doubt it, i just hope we don't go like yu-gi-oh where games are decided by opening hands...

    1. This game is over, it's either play Paladins, Gears, Granblue or lose.

    2. I'm not quite sure how to reply to this...
Yes, Royal and Shadow Paladins, Gear Chronicle, and Granblue are the current metagame. This fluctuates slightly from area to area, but those are the main 3 decks being used.
Every card game has a metagame. There is usually always a best deck(s), because it's impossible to make a game like this perfectly balanced. Even in games like Hearthstone, which is one of the most balanced card games I know, has an obvious metagame and the competitors in Worlds all use pretty much the same decks.
These decks are all strong. There is no doubt about it. But the game isn't "over" (although it is dying, which I might make a post on later).
Aqua Force has recently been topping in France, as well as Bermuda. Link Joker has been taking tops everywhere. Victor is having a great time in Japan. D Robos are doing well, too.
After the stride support, it still feels that (almost) every clan can at least compete somewhat. Maybe some decks are topping because of trigger sack, but hey, that's part of the game.
There's been new theories introduced to the game recently to combat this rushy meta, such as using 10k vanillas to help carry yourself to the late game.
Anyway, the game is still evolving. We don't know what set 11 has in store for us, and it might help diversify the meta. The game isn't "dead". It's still fun (in my opinion), and just has a limited meta right now.
I feel I jabbered too much here, so I'll stop now.

  2. If this deck is shifted to the gold paladin side, would it be better?

    1. Happy Easter!
Anyway, I couldn't get Gold Paladin Garmore to work as well as Royals, Golds have some really good High Beasts like Coolgal and Ketchgal Liberator, along with Liberator Garmore opening up options to Liberator-specific support like Avlogale. I found testing, though, that it is harder for them to make the magic numbers and they can't really multiattack at all except with Glorious Reigning. In attition, they don't have access to Royal's amazing G Zone and they don't have the birbs that help with defense a ton. Golds can fill up their formation quicker and easier, but can't really do much over Royals other than that.

    3. I'm talking about Oath Aglovale. I misspelled it, oops.

    4. ah ok, that's reasonable and this just occurred to me does sanctuary guard arc work better with garmore?

    5. It probably would work. Sanc Guard isn't too amazing without the Blaster Engine, though. As long as you're willing to pay the discard cost over Saltmile's CB, go right ahead. I've never actually considered testing it as a backup.

  3. By any chance would a budget brave (altmile) deck be listed here possibly later on? I do like the garmore build btw!
