Deck Spotlight: Witch with a Side of Vanilla (OTT Witches)

OTT is in a terrible spot at the moment. Without a reliable offensive outside of Kamususanoo, they're just drawing pointlessly. OTT is one of my favorite clans but... they're just super weak.

But I have hope! OTT is getting support in the Trinity Dragon booster coming later and I decided to build an OTT budget deck to prepare for it with my fave OTT unit Coco. It works pretty well and is really cheap, too.

But you might have some issues with some of my choices

Decklist:
NOTE: This is only an example decklist and should only be used as a base. I recommended that you create your own decklist through your own testing. I found this decklist to fit me, but it is up to you to find a decklist that fits you.

Grade 0:
1x Little Witch, Lulu
12x Crits
4x Heals

Grade 1:
4x Perfect Guard of Choice
4x Divine Sword, Ame-no-Murakumo
3x Oracle Guardian, Gemini
3x Shrine Guard, Tsunagi

Grade 2:
4x Diviner, Kuroikazuchi
4x Battle Sister, Tart
3x Shrine Guard, Asuha

Grade 3:
4x Scarlet Witch, Coco
4x Rose Red Witch, Cucu

Grade 4:
4x Dragon Destroyer Battle Deity, Susanoo
2x Floral Witch Master, Mimi
2x Soaring Auspicious Beast, Kirin
4x Rain Element, Madew
4x Sunrise-on-high Godhawk, Ichibyoshi

S-s-seven 10ks? and S-s-six 8ks? Oh yeah, kids. The Vanilla game is real.

The deck draws a lot, as should all OTT decks. Lulu gives you easy +1 once you ride to Grade 3 and Coco gives you a really good +2 on-ride. All of the strides are here to pool in advantage as well. Kamususanoo and Kirin on-hit get you 1 card in hand, Mimi can force 2 cards from your opponent's hand or make them take a damage, and Madew is free striding. Madew can also retrieve Witches from drop for Mimi. Kuroikazichi in the Grade 2 lineup nets you a lot of draw over time, as well.

Ichibyoshi's the only G-Guard we have, but Scryew can be subbed in at one or two.

Now Vanilla talk. Outside of PGs, Stride Fodders, G3s, and Kuroikazuchi the entire deck is vanillas. Now why, Robot? Aren't units with skills better than units without? Well, that would be true. But this is OTT we're talking about. Their Grade 1s and 2s are pretty bad. Other than that, I do have pretty good reasons for my card choice.

First off, the defensive number is actually really good early. It stops your opponent from playing hyper unless they dedicate more cards to field.

Second, that extra power makes really good power columns with Kamususanoo. 8k boosting Kuroikazuchi with Kamususanoo power boost? 21k column. 7k boosting a 10k with Kamususanoo? Again, 21k column. Outside of Kamususanoo, 8ks can boost Coco for 21k and 8ks can boost 8ks. The vanillas also prepare you for defensive increase numbers like Gavrail, Jessica, and various cross rides, if crossrides ever make a comeback.

Third, they're cheap. 'Nuff said

Potential Changes:

Most of these changes are putting more money into the deck.

The first major change is adding Tom to the lineup and take out some 10ks. Tom's a staple in Generic OTT and is around $10 at the moment.

Second major change is to add some Takemitazuchi to the G-Zone. More draws is good.

Susanoo G3 can be put in instead of Cucu and Nono can be put in as both a Stand Trigger and as amother Witch for Mimi's discard.

Effectiveness: 6/10

Price: $35-45

Competitive: Maybe

Final Words: I'm really surprised with how this deck came out. It's not entirely competitive, but it's fun as hell and can do really well with a good pilot. Since the deck is mostly vanillas, it's gonna be really easy to upgrade with new stuff as it releases. If you plan to play OTT at all, try to get all your staples before the prices go up!

Anyhow, see you in the next one!

  2. I am hoping with the revival set and the team set OTT gets something to bring it back to the map. Magus did nothing for the clan even if it is fun to predict the future. The stride for tsukuyomi did nothing for the deck, besides giving it a stride. Even the witch support with Cucu and Nono did really nothing for the deck besides giving the stride more fodder. I feel nono should have been a draw trigger instead of a stand. Battle sister, even though it had gained a good pair of cards for a legion pair, it still not enough for standing up to stride based decks. I have played OTT since the start and it is sad to see such a good clan fall by the wayside. I just hope bushiroad brings it back.

    1. Magus is a great OTT build. Tested against a fairly competent Nociel player and grinded out the game pretty easily.

About Nono, if she were a draw trigger that would kill you so fast. Crit would have been best.

Battle Sisters are never going to be competitive, honestly.

Most of your points are true, but you seem a bit pessimistic. OTT is undersupported, not out

  3. I am very new to the game, and would appreciate any advice regarding the playing of OTT decks. Since this deck is predominantly vanillas, does it require any less thinking or memory to play? Or are there any other OTT builds I should play first?

    1. This is probably the easiest OTT build to start playing the game. Since it only has access to the most basic of units, you'll only have to worry about your G3 skills and G4 skills.

    2. Will this deck teach me the correct strategies and mindset for playing OTT?

    3. At the basic level, yes. But once you get the hang of this deck you should look to try using other OTT decks and get a feel of all of them
