Budget Deck: Great Nature (Hammsuke)

Aspiring to be a
Mangaka
So the deck came sooner over later. Awesome.

So a certain deck has been in demand by a lot of people. Everywhere.

It's called Hammsuke.

It's pretty cheap and Great Nature hasn't been covered in a long time, so I decided to cover it. While the deck isn't something to write home about, Hammsuke's been a fan favorite for awhile now and the moment that they were announced plenty of people got hyped up and excited. But the thing is...

The old set of Hammsuke cards are crazy hard to find now and I'm not surprised. It's been almost four years since they've been released and everyone's trying pretty hard to get their hands on them. G1 Hammsuke even spiked up to $10 at one point(and is sitting solid at $5).

So I decided not to use the old ones. And this is what I came up with. It surprisingly did better than the variant that I tested using the older Hammsukes.

Anyhow, let's get onto the blog!

Grade 3
The main ride target's Fountain Pen Hammkichi. He gives pretty significant power boosts to both the rearguards and himself, alongside some needed unit recycling. Run at 4, obviously.

I recommend using Tusk Master as backup as a stand-in for Crayon Tiger(secondary market pls), and restands are greatly welcome here.

Hero Hammsuke and Ink Panda could be used, but Hammsuke is hard to find. Ink Panda is a pretty easy draw if you can get it's success off.

Grade 2
Why you gotta be so
expensive?
You want to run maximum amounts of the new Hammsukes. Hammy recycles resources and gives power boosts, and Hammjiro gives you essentially free countercharge at the end of the turn.

Sleepy Tapir vs Binoculus Tiger. Tapir is cheaper to get and has resist.

Crayon Tiger if you have the money. If.

There's Compass Lion for the 11k base and Malicious Sabre for the 12k beats.

Grade 1

Perfect Guards are a must. Stride Fodder is an option.

Hammzo... Only a Shimada can control the Hammsukes... Hammzo is with you...

Overwatch jokes aside, Hanzo is gonna be your go-to retire fodder. Pretty nice for adding cards to hand and it does have the Hammsuke name. Arguably better than the old Hammsuke G1.

Duckbill and/or Mikesaburo for #dathandsize. I like Mikesaburo for the Stride Fodder search, but Duckbill's draw is better in some situations. And Duckbill reprint FTW.

Wash-up Racoon's recycling skill is amazing and pretty much mandatory to fill up your deck with Hammsuke's for Hanzo.

Grade 0
Plenty of options for starters in Great Nature, but the best are Pencil Koala and Littlebelly. Pencil Koala is pressure and nice, easy plus whenever it triggers, but Littlebelly's +2000 is actually pretty useful for hitting magic numbers on your rearguard circles.

12 Criticals is the way to go, but stands and draws work too, I guess. And don't forget about the Ruler Chameleon.

Grade 4
You shouldn't be striding too much, but it's nice to have options.

Phoenicaix gives good power boosts, but retiring two of your rearguards really hurts.

Hrimthurs is just a great card. +8000 to a unit and get a draw at end of turn? For 1 soulblast? Just great.

Wisdom Teller's on-hit is nice, but it's essentially Hrimthurs on-hit for no cost.

Silvest 2.0's at worst a costless Atmos, and at best a free draw.

If you have the money, Bigbelly and Magnagarmr are both great cards to add to your lineup. Bigbelly's pressure is real and Magnagarmr's Glory skill to rearguards still relevant, even with G Guardians.

Aflac is less useful than Bigbelly and Magnagarmr, and it's a bit counter-intuitive in Hammsukes, but the +4000 to all rearguards isn't too shabby.

I go for a 2/2 or 2/3 split between Ardillo and Kundali, respectively. Scryews that you can pick up will be great.

Decklist:
NOTE: This is only an example decklist and should only be used as a base. I recommended that you create your own decklist through your own testing. I found this decklist to fit me, but it is up to you to find a decklist that fits you.

Grade 0:
1x Scintillating First-year Student, Littlebelly
16x Triggers of Choice

Grade 1:
4x Perfect Guard of Choice
4x Hammsuke's Rival, Crayon Hammzo
3x Honorary Assistant, Mikesaburo/Coiling Duckbill
3x Wash Up Racoon

Grade 2:
4x Hammsuke's Rival, Oil-based Pen Hammjiro
4x Hammsuke's Classmate, Mechanical Pencil Hammy
3x Sleepy Tapir

Grade 3:
4x Hammsuke's Rival, Fountain Pen Hammkichi
4x Contradictory Instructor, Tusk Master

Grade 4:
4x Omniscience Dragon, Hrimthurs
3x Eternity Professor, Phoenicalux
2x Lifelong Honorary Professor, Silvest
2x Omniscience Dragon, Wisdom Teller Dragon
3x Immortality Professor, Kundali
2x Head of the Bastion, Ardillo

Effectiveness: 7/10

Price: $20-30

Competitive: Possibly, but investing in some better strides would definitely help.

Final Words: Despite the very low price point, Hammsukes are actually a pretty effective deck that makes me seriously impressed with Bushiroad. The low price points on all of these is a great way to get newer players into Great Nature, as well as older players to invest less money on a deck that's primarily a fan-favorite deck, but still perform well.

Anyhow, see you in the next one!

    1. Umm... Heads for Hammsuke, Tails for Nightmareland? Lol

Jokes aside, if you like sheer defense, go ahead and wait for Nightmareland. But I'd you want something that can be birth offensive and defensive, Hammsuke is better and it's already released

    2. WELP hammsuke is pretty tempting with the current support. Instead I want to gamble on the potential support! Which do u think has more potential?

    3. I say that Nightmareland has a lot of potential and can become pretty good if Bushiroad throws them some more support. The G-Zone for DI is really, really good(if you're willing to spend the money) and complements with Nightmareland support very, very well. If built right, it could probably do really well, but testing will tell.

Hammsuke will probably get more support, since I don't see Bushiroad giving us support and not giving more. Probably will in the next Fighter's Collection

  2. How badly do you think this would run without Hrimthurs? I can find 4 of everything but him, locally for super cheap.

    2. On another note, I guess you could work without Hrimthurs

    3. Ooh, I didn't mean to say he was expensive. I just literally can't find him locally, but everyone else is both available and cheap. Cheers for that, I'll give Hammsukes a spin for next time I visit the cardshop; I'll just have to do without Hrimthurs for a couple weeks until he arrives in the mail.

  4. Taken this deck list down and started to tinker with it. the base i found was fine but am having trouble striding even with mikeaburo.
The other thing im stuggling with is soul, with hirithmus and the mechanical pencil hammy both requiring soul charges. Even running castanet donkey im having problems being able to soul charge.
Really fun but just looking to try sort out the soul charge problem
